Abstract: The purpose of this study was to see effect of preeclampsia on pregnant women and check if relationship existed between age of pregnant women and development of preeclampsia. The data used in this project was obtained from Hospital Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP) database which is sponsored by Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). The aim of the project was to see if any association existed between admission type and age, race, length of stay, income and payer type. Admission type is chosen to be the dependent variable because it indicates the seriousness of the condition at the time of admission. The hypothesis that women older than 30 years of age have greater risk of developing preeclampsia is supported from the finding that the mean age of this sample of women with preeclampsia is 29. Older women were more likely to develop preeclampsia because along with age, fertility treatments are more common in this age, time difference of greater than 7 years between two children is a risk factor. The main limitation of this study is there is no control group with whom we can compare the causes, risk factors etcetra, All the women included in this study have preeclampsia.
