The girls, apparently, were too much trouble to worry about, so he’d dumped them onto the streets to fend for themselves. It was just luck that Ian McCray and his family had found Lucy that day. Both Lucy and her sister, Jilly, were in bad need of medical attention. Ian was just thrilled to have found his mate alive. In their situation, it could have been much worse. Lucy was thankful for the help, but she was just going from one man to another lording over her and dictating what she could and couldn’t do. It was marry Ian or lose her sisters for good. Ian was a nice man, but she was tired of everyone telling her what to do.

Happenstance The abduction of a young, brilliant mechanical engineer who happened to be a pot-head, in his pursuit of the finest reefer in the world, leads to an adventure with potentially dire consequences. An unlikely crew assembles in an effort to thwart a diabolical, sinister, murderous criminal mastermind in his scheme to take political and financial control over the booming new marijuana legalization. The Triangle Thinkers have other things in mind. Audacity! How dare I? Who am I to think that I could ever actually write a book? Well, whatever, I went for it. I’ve read thousands of fiction novels and have often thought about the challenge. I’ve also been told that I should write a book. So here you have it, which begs another question I must ask myself; why? What is the end-goal? What is the objective I’d like to accomplish as a result of putting forth all of this tremendous effort and expense? I respond to this quandary through introspection. I look and see some of the awful things that I’ve been through and I’d like to be able to contribute toward their ultimate eradication. Most notably, to me, and I’m dreadfully ashamed to say so, as I’m first-hand experienced with it, is homelessness, which, in retrospect, is nothing compared to having had the ultimate tragedy in my life of dealing with Alzheimer’s Disease. As an answer to these questions that I’ve asked myself, while creating an exciting, suspenseful, entertaining and perhaps provocative story, I’ve hoped to bring some attention to their issues within the pages of this novel. The writing touches upon not only the two that I’ve mentioned, but also other socio-economic issues affecting everyday American citizens…every day. It is my sincerest hope that with The Help of God and God Willing, my effort will not be for naught; that somehow, some way, through whatever (if ever) profit this may yield, a percentage of your purchase can go toward contributing to these causes. In my wildest dreams, if this is successful, I hope to establish a dual-purpose foundation; one concentration battling Alzheimer’s Disease, and the other, the blight of homelessness in America. All this being said, please, forgive me for my audacity. …How dare I write a book A New Novel with a Mission Reefenue is a novel with surprising and reasonable conclusions about marijuana in our society through imagining what it would be like to have it as a mainstream, legal commodity instead of a very limited or forbidden product in the hands of the mafia, where its dangers in this book and in real life are not chemical but rather those of distribution in the hands of powerful thugs for whom murder is a mere inconvenience for those who interfere with material profits. The characters are drawn with a realism that makes their values, humor, shortcomings, and even breathing part of the reader’s journey through the book’s 370 pages. Each persona is plausible down to his or her speech patterns, personal idioms and motives right down to the romance between Morty and Hank (Henrietta). The villainous Maestro conveys a picture of evil that makes any bad guys from Ian Fleming look like Mr. Rogers. The conflict at times becomes a wee bit grinding for readers who want simply “to get on with it”, but Mr. Harrington is not what I would call a “terse” writer with a sense of verbal economy. His scenarios paint characters and their predicaments in sensory ways with elaborate detail and plausible, extensive dialogue. The principal message from the book is that marijuana should not be something restricted by government interference. I think of prohibition of alcohol during the 1920’s and early 1930’s and am convinced that many similar horrors of crime from that era could be diminished or eliminated by making pot as legal as cigarettes. Mr. Harrington is a skilled writer with a mission, one that he renders quite convincingly in his novel. John Bolinger April, 2021

A gang of fourteen-year-old hoods rampage through West Belfast, indulging in violent street crime and mugging pensioners to pay for cider, cigarettes and sweets. Branded scum by a shocked community and pursued by a dogged local vigilante, the young gangsters' antisocial behaviour soon escalates into something much worse. "The Wire? This is Barbed Wire. A cheeky slice of urban noir, a drink-soaked, drug-addled journey into the violent underbelly of one of Europe's most notorious ghettos, Wee Rockets makes The Outsiders look like the Teletubbies" - Colin Bateman For fans of A Clockwork Orange, Kidulthood, The Wire, Boyz n the Hood or City of God set in Belfast- and for anyone with an open mind about disaffected, disenfranchised youth in modern urban society. What they're saying... "Gerard Brennan stands apart from the Irish crime fiction crowd with a novel rooted in the reality of today's Belfast. The author's prose speaks with a rare authenticity about the pain of growing up in a fractured society, shot through with a black humour that can only come from the streets. Wee Rockets is urban crime fiction for the 21st century, and Brennan is a unique voice among contemporary Irish writers." - Stuart Neville "In Wee Rockets Gerard Brennan has written a fast paced, exciting story of West Belfast gang culture; brimming with violence, authentic street dialogue and surprising black humour. This is a great debut novel. Brennan takes us into the heart of Belfast's chav underclass, in a story that lies somewhere in the intersection between The Warriors, Colin Bateman and Guy Ritchie. This is the first in what undoubtedly will be a stellar literary career." - Adrian McKinty "Brennan impressed me hugely with his debut novella The Point, and Wee Rockets has cemented my opinion that he belongs among the top rank of Northern Irish crime writers." - Loitering With Intent "So assured and mature you'd think this was his eight or ninth book, not one of his first." - Spinetingler Magazine "This is a tremendous book and I urge you to read it." - I Meant To Read That From the author... "I think the main theme is that of nature versus nurture. The characters are presented as products of their environment. I don't think it's a judgemental book; it simply shows you how these kids and adults react to certain situations. The reader may not always approve of the action taken but hopefully they can understand what has informed it. It's also an exploration into how good people can do bad things and bad people can do good. I've purposely tried to blur that line so that the characters aren't simply black or white. Morally they operate in shades of grey. It's my hope that a character you hated in the first chapter can grow into a hero by the final act and vice versa."

A collection of stories by Keith Gilman. “The best fiction has this feeling that someone’s just leaned close to whisper in our ear, ‘I’ve something important to tell you.’ Keith Gilman’s debut novel has and sustains that quality from the first page. You know right away that you’re in the hands of a natural and very fine storyteller. Authenticity, voice, the sense of lives beyond the page, all those things we crave as readers and for which we work so hard as writers, tossing the bones, hoping the magic will work–all are solidly, soundly in place.” —James Sallis, author of Drive. “Dark, gritty, and hauntingly lyrical, Keith Gilman writes Noir with the authenticity of a cop who has actually worked the mean streets.” —Robin Burcell, author of Face of a Killer. “…Grabbed me by the collar and wouldn’t let go. Gilman’s voice is a powerful new addition to the crime fiction community.” —Reed Farrel Coleman, Shamus, Barry and Anthony Award-winning author of the Moe Prager series.
