You have exactly one life in which to do everything you’ll ever do. Act accordingly. Act Accordingly is a philosophical framework written to help people become the best possible version of themselves. Rather than proposing a one-size-fits-all code of beliefs or behaviors, the ideas presented in this intentionally concise book encourage readers to question their long-held biases, their definition of confidence, their level of self-sustainability, and the degree to which they allow themselves to evolve their beliefs over time. There’s no time like the present to…act accordingly.

Working side-by-side with a lover can always be a risky gamble. However, for the last year, Eric Dennis and Mathew Campbell have made it work—in every sense of the word. Eric and Mathew have a done a great job of keeping their professional and romantic lives fun, sexy…and separate, without causing too much conflict in and out of the office—until Carter Wilson, a hot client of Eric’s, barges into their lives and shakes up Eric and Mathew’s delicate balance. Carter Wilson is a wealthy, social media mogul, who has his sights set directly on Mathew. While Mathew has been content with his business and personal relationships with Eric, he can’t help, but to be slowly captivated by Wilson’s good-looks and cocky charm, as well as the opportunity to work at one of the trendiest tech companies in the country…and opportunity that Mathew cannot just pass up. Although Mathew is fiercely loyal to Eric (both as his subordinate and lover), friction rapidly develops in their fragile love/work relationship, regarding Eric’s workaholic behavior, as well as his deep-rooted fear of commitment, causing Mathew to question if a healthy, long-term relationship is a realistic endgame for the two men or if being with Wilson, in the office—as well as Wilson's bed—is the better alternative. Soon enough, Eric finds himself having to honestly address the disconnect between his straight-laced public persona and his sexual identity, while Mathew finds himself having to make pivotal decisions, regarding the future of his career...as well as his uncertain future with Eric.

A practical guide to shutting down workplace sexual harassment so it doesn't derail your career or your life, from the first on-air personality to sue ESPN for sexual harassment. "A strong book that will help you navigate the choppy waters of sexual harassment. Gain your power, read this book." -Rose McGowan, New York Times bestselling author of Brave Even in the #MeToo era, studies show that women in the workforce continue to harbor misconceptions about sexual harassment and are unprepared to respond when it happens. Lawyer and former ESPN anchor Adrienne Lawrence has learned to advocate for herself and other women. In this book, she offers much-needed insight on topics such as: • Identifying the five types of harassers and the five types of coworkers who enable them • Researching company culture and history to identify sexual harassment hotbeds • Properly documenting inappropriate behavior • Preparing for retaliation and mental health hurdles such as anxiety and depression • Managing public exposure and figuring out when to leverage the power of the media and/or lawyer up This essential guide helps women navigate the complicated realities of sexual harassment and teaches them how to be their own best advocates in toxic work environments.

Launched in 2007, tumblr became a safe haven for LGBT youth, social justice movements, and a counseling station for mental health issues. For a decade, this micro-blogging platform had more users than either Twitter or Snapchat, but it remained an obscure subculture for nonusers. Katrin Tiidenberg, Natalie Ann Hendry, and Crystal Abidin offer the first systematic guide to tumblr and its crucial role in shaping internet culture. Drawing on a decade of qualitative data, they trace the prominent social media practices of creativity, curation, and community-making, and reveal tumblr’s cultlike appeal and position in the social media ecosystem. The book demonstrates how diverse cultures can – in felt and imagined silos - coexist on a single platform and how destructive recent trends in platform governance are. The concept of “silosociality” is introduced to critically re-think social media, interrogate what kinds of sociality it affords, and what (unintended) consequences arise. This book is an essential resource for students and scholars of media and communication, as well as anyone interested in an influential but overlooked platform.

An exploration of how and why social media content is tagged as “not safe for work” and an argument against conflating sexual content with risk. The hashtag #NSFW (not safe for work) acts as both a warning and an invitation. NSFW tells users, “We dare you to click on this link! And by the way, don't do it until after work!” Unlike the specificity of movie and television advisories (“suggestive dialogue,” “sexual content”), NSFW signals, nonspecifically, sexually explicit content that ranges from nude selfies to pornography. NSFW looks at how and why social media content is tagged “not safe” and shows how this serves to conflate sexual content and risk. The authors argue that the notion of “unsafety” extends beyond the risk of losing one's job or being embarrassed at work to an unspecified sense of risk attached to sexually explicit media content and sexual communication in general. The authors examine NSFW practices of tagging and flagging on a range of social media platforms; online pornography and its dependence on technology; user-generated NSFW content—in particular, the dick pic and associated issues of consent, desire, agency, and social power; the deployment of risqué humor in the workplace; and sexist and misogynist online harassment that functions as an enforcer of inequalities. They argue against the categorical effacement of sexual content by means of an all-purpose hashtag and urge us to shift considerations of safety from pictorial properties to issues of context and consent.

A revealing and gripping investigation into how social media platforms police what we post online—and the large societal impact of these decisions Most users want their Twitter feed, Facebook page, and YouTube comments to be free of harassment and porn. Whether faced with “fake news” or livestreamed violence, “content moderators”—who censor or promote user†‘posted content—have never been more important. This is especially true when the tools that social media platforms use to curb trolling, ban hate speech, and censor pornography can also silence the speech you need to hear. In this revealing and nuanced exploration, award†‘winning sociologist and cultural observer Tarleton Gillespie provides an overview of current social media practices and explains the underlying rationales for how, when, and why these policies are enforced. In doing so, Gillespie highlights that content moderation receives too little public scrutiny even as it is shapes social norms and creates consequences for public discourse, cultural production, and the fabric of society. Based on interviews with content moderators, creators, and consumers, this accessible, timely book is a must†‘read for anyone who’s ever clicked “like” or “retweet.”
